It can be daunting when a black child comes into a white family in the area of hair care. If you say yes to a black child you must be 100% committed to ensuring that their hair and skin are given utmost care and attention.

We highly recommend you connect with a black barber or hair stylist to get you started.

It’s important to remember not to overwash. The tighter the curl, the more it will dry out with overwashing. For the tightest curls, washing is recommended once a week. For looser curls, 2-3 times a week.

Use the L.O.C method. Every day, the hair should be treated with L(iquid), O(il) & a (C)ream.

Recommended liquids
  • Shea Moisture kids extra moisturizer detangler
  • Shea Moisture hold & shine moisture mist
  • Cantu Care for Kids conditioning detangler

Recommended oils
(Be aware that coconut oil can be drying for many hair types)
  • Cantu daily oil moisturizer
  • Renewing Argan Oil of Morocco
  • Jojoba oil

Recommended creams
  • Cantu Care for Kids curling cream
  • Shea Moisture curl & shine smoothie
  • As I Am doublebutter cream

Keeping hair in protected styles (braids, beads & twists) helps hair stay moisturized and healthy.
